Speaking during the ceremony, Rt.Hon.Comrade Philip Shaibu, welcome the new coach to Edo State, saying that the State government was elated to have high profile football manager like him to help pilot.the affairs of Edo Queens.
“We are very happy to have you, we are also very confident that you have the necessary tools to take Edo Queens to Eldorado. As you know, Edo State is highly committed to Sports development especially in the areas of youth development. We have been following you, we are aware of your numerous achievements in football as a coach, so I personally gave a matching order to the Sports Commission to do everything within their power to get a good and result oriented coach for Edo Queens FC. Now that you are here, I have no doubt in.my mind that you and your team will deliver.”
“We have a target, we want to win the NWFL League title, we also have our eyes on the Aiteo Cup and most importantly, Edo Queens want to play in the Women’s Champions league and win. If you do well, you take the credit, and if you fail, you and your technical crew will also take take responsibilities. So Feel free to come to us when you need us. Thank God you have seasoned administrators in the Sports Commission who are always there to provide the tools that will make you excel in this new task. , We are there for you, and we wish you the best of luck.”
In his response, the former Bayelsa Queens head coach thanked the State government for the opportunity given to him to work as coach of Edo Queens, stressing that success can only be achieved through hard work. He maintained that he has come to Edo Queens to achieve results and also called for commitment, hard work and sacrifice, adding that without God nothing can be achieved.
“First and most, I want to thank God for given me the opportunity to be here in Edo State to be the coach of the envious Edo Queens fc. What actually motivated me coming to Edo Queens is the structure of the club. From afar, I see what the State government is doing, I see the structure of the club. In Nigeria today, no team go for an away match by Flight but Edo Queens does. They do play all their home matches by 6pm under floodlights which I have being clamouring for in Nigeria.”
“Another thing that gingered me up is the high level of commitment from the State government, the management, the players, the backroom staff and the fans. What I have seen here is worth commendable. So I think I’m here to add into the team what I have met and see how we can get the NWFL trophy and the Aiteo Cup.”
On why he decided to leave Bayelsa Queens for Edo Queens, the NWFL and Aiteo Cup winning coach said:
“Leaving Bayelsa Queens was a tough decision for me to make because Bayelsa Queens is the second Nigerian Women team that will be playing in the Continental. But I said to myself I need a new challenge and I looked around and saw that Edo Queens has what it takes for us to achieve results in this new challenge so I told myself and my family I need to make a move despite the fact that I took Bayelsa Queens to continental, I want to take Edo Queens to play top flight football in the continent too. And one of the gateway to achieving this is nothing but hard work, discipline and the fear of God. All the things we did in Bayalsa that gave us results will be replicated here in Edo Queens”
“For me I’m at home in Edo State, the reason is that I have won three trophies here at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium for my team Bayelsa Queens. So whatever I did in my former club that gave us victory .I will do it in Edo Queens. We will break the jinx and win trophies by the special grace of God.
