Defending champions Bayelsa Queens will continue their quest to retain the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership title against Robo Queens at Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, on Wednesday.
The Lagos Landladies had a 2-0 loss against 2021 champions, Rivers Angels in its opening match thanks to goals from Chiamaka Okwuchukwu and Adaobi Okah on Tuesday.
Emmanuel Osahon’s side will have to win its second match to have any hope of getting to the final on Sunday.
Both sides have had previous titanic encounters in recent times and are unseparated based on Head-to-Head from their last four games.
Charity Reuben’s 53rd-minute goal separated both sides at the end of the 2022/2021 league game in Yenegoa.
In 2021, Robo Queens defeated Bayelsa Queens 2-0 at the Super Six in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, as Lawal Taiwo and Gift Monday both scored for the Lagos-based side.
The two teams met twice during the 2021/2022 season with FC Robo Queens picking a win in Lagos courtesy of Shukurat Oladipo’s goal while Bayelsa Queens returned the favours with a 2-0 win in Yenegoa as goals from Itimi Mercy and Etim Edidiong in either half gave the Prosperity Girls the victory.
The last four games between both sides have not ended in a draw as they have earned two wins apiece. This points to the fact that fans should expect a win from the game.
During the regular season, Domo Okara’s side won seven of its 12 games with four draws and a loss to end the campaign in the second position from Group A.
Similarly, FC Robo Queens also finished as Group B runners-up after picking seven wins, a draw, and four losses.
A win for the Yenegoa-based side will end the Lagos-based side’s campaign at the Super Six and brighten Bayelsa Queens’ title challenge. Expect another keenly contested game between both sides in Asaba on Wednesday.
