After Sunday’s 3-0 win over USFA of Burkina Faso, Nigerian champions, Delta Queens made it two wins out of two in Group A at the 2023 West African Zone B (WAFU-B) Zonal Qualifiers for the 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League on Friday.
Delta Queens coach, Tosan Blankson started the game with Abderline Ngbechi in goal alongside Ifeoma Ofitezue, Chidera Okenwa, Rebecca Adegbemile, Taiwo Afolabi, Temilope Owoeye, Mercy Omokwo, Chisom Henry, Honor Nwadigo, Effion-Anwan Ekeng, and Joy Michael.
Sourakatou Alassane started in goal for the Beninoise champions alongside Zainab Salaudeen, Saoudatou Imorou, Rukayat Issa, Hannah Kanu, Titilayo Abdullahi, Taiwo Akinyinka, Abibath Bake Zato, Blessing Onyenaucheya, Blessing Barnabas, and Deborah Ayotunde.
A superb effort of former Edo Queens star Temilope Owoeye in the 34th minute broke the deadlock as she got a pass inside the box and sent a right-footed shot into the top right corner for the opener.
In the 54th minute, Ifeoma Ifituzue doubled the lead for the Asaba-based side when she was in the right place at the right time to poke in Chisom Henry’s corner after it eluded two players in the box.
With the result, Blankson’s side finished top of Group A and will next face the runners-up of Group B in the semi-final.
Sam Nelly finished second in the group and will face Ghanaian Champions, Ampem Darkoa in the semi-final.
