Four players of Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) Premiership champions, Delta Queens have made the Team of the Tournament for the 2023 West Africa Zone B (WAFU-B) Women’s Champions League Qualifiers.
Ophelia Amponsah’s first-half goal sealed the title for the Ghanaian champions, Ampem Darkoa at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria, on Thursday.
Four Delta Queens players irrespective of losing the final match made the Team of the Tournament.
The quartet of Mgbechi Anderline, Favour Amaeze, Chinaza Agoh, and Mercy Omokwo were the Nigerian players that made the cut.
Anderline kept two clean sheets at the tournament and conceded the least number of goals (4).
Defender, Favour Amaeze contributed to the Nigerian side’s good defensive showing at the competition.
Chinaza Agoh who won the most valuable player of the tournament formed an attacking trio with her teammate, Mercy Omokwo. The topgoal scorer of the tournament, Mary Amponsah (Ampem Darkoa), joined the Nigerian pair upfront.
Ampem Darkoa with five players dominated the team of the tournament followed by Delta Queens with four players. The third-placed team at the tournament, Athletico FC of Ivory Coast has two players in the team.
