Nasarawa Amazons, Rivers Angels, Confluence Queens and Heartland Queens seal NWFL Premiership Super Six spots

Nasarawa Amazons, Rivers Angels, Confluence Queens and Heartland Queens have secured places at the 2023/2024 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership Super Six after Matchday 13, with a game to spare.

Nasarawa Amazons sealed their place in the season-ending Super Six from Group A with a 2-1 win over Adamawa Queens.

Goals from Mathias Josephine and Ojiyovwi Kesiena ensured their qualification, despite Mary Moses’ goal for Adamawa Queens. This marks Nasarawa Amazons’ return to the Super Six after missing out last season.

Heartland Queens also booked their spot in the Super Six with a 2-1 victory over Naija Ratels. First-half goals from Onyinyechi Kalu and Chinyere Iheoma secured the win for Heartland Queens, with Grace Saliu’s strike for Naija Ratels serving as a consolation. This is Heartland Queens’ first-ever appearance in the Super Six.

Similarly, Confluence Queens secured their place in the Super Six by defeating Abia Angels. Goals from Mary Mamudu and Chinyere Emenike helped Sabo Okala’s side to a 2-0 win, ensuring consecutive Super Six qualifications for Confluence Queens.

In Port Harcourt, Rivers Angels edged out former champions Bayelsa Queens 1-0, with a last-gasp goal from super sub, Patience Otubo. This victory secured Rivers Angels’ spot in the Super Six, marking their fifth consecutive appearance.

Meanwhile, two Super Six places are still up for grabs in Group B, with Bayelsa Queens, Edo Queens, and FC Robo Queens vying for qualification.
