Edo Queens and Bayelsa Queens secured the last two Super Six tickets for the 2023/2024 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership at the end of Matchday 14 on Wednesday.
In the final round of matches before the Super Six, Edo Queens joined Rivers Angels to make it to the season-ending tournament despite playing out a 1-1 draw with holders Delta Queens at Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba. Arit Itu’s late goal canceled out Odoma Amarachi’s opener for Delta Queens.
Bayelsa Queens also clinched their spot in the Super Six despite a 2-1 loss to FC Robo Queens. Goals from Folashade Ijamilusi in each half gave FC Robo the lead, but Blessing Abiola’s goal for Bayelsa ensured they secured the necessary points.
With both Bayelsa Queens and FC Robo Queens finishing with the same points, Bayelsa Queens made it to the Super Six due to their superior goal difference.
The Super Six now features six teams: Confluence Queens, Rivers Angels, Edo Queens, Bayelsa Queens, Nasarawa Amazons, and Heartland Queens.
These teams will compete for the league title and a spot in the WAFU-B Women’s Champions League Qualifiers, with holders Delta Queens not defending their title, paving the way for a new champion.
