DreamStar FC Ladies are set to compete in the 2024 Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) Championship, marking their third consecutive season in the second tier.
The Lagos-based side dropped to the lower division at the end of the 2020/2021 season following the relegation playoffs.
In the 2021/2022 season, DreamStar finished second in Group A, just one point behind Ibom Angels, narrowly missing an immediate return to the topflight.
Last season, they ended up in fourth place in Group A, behind Dannaz Ladies, Ekiti Queens, and Pelican Stars.
As they prepare for the new season, Coach Ayinla Rasheed, who has led the team for the past two campaigns, is optimistic about their chances of promotion.
“We have been preparing extensively for the upcoming Championship,” Rasheed told TheNWFL.com.
“I believe all the players are ready. Our preparation has us 100% ready for this challenge. Our goal is straightforward: to secure promotion to the Premiership.”
The South West team has strengthened its squad by recruiting new players while retaining key members from last season.
“We’ve blended new recruits with our existing players to ensure we’re well-prepared,” Rasheed added. “The team is evolving positively.”
To gear up for the Championship, DreamStar FC Ladies have engaged in several preparatory matches, including games against NWFL Premiership teams like Remo Stars Ladies and friendly matches against U-10 and U-15 teams.
“We are focused on winning our games and securing qualification,” Rasheed said.
“Our goal is to win all our matches, and that will see us through to promotion. We’ve faced Remo Stars Ladies twice and will also play against Papa Soccer Queens before the Championship begins.”
With a clear focus and thorough preparation, DreamStar FC Ladies aim to make a strong push for a return to the elite division.
