Kwara Ladies, now in their third consecutive season in the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Championship, are fiercely determined to secure promotion to the topflight.
After a mixed performance in previous seasons—finishing fourth in 2022 and fifth in 2023—the team is gearing up for a more competitive 2024 campaign.
Despite a tough exit from the 2024 President Federation Cup, where they were defeated 7-0 by Delta Queens, the Ilorin-based team is focused and prepared. Coach Olajide Peter Muyiwa emphasized the team’s readiness and the changes made during the offseason.
“We are 100% ready for the 2024 NWFL Championship,” Muyiwa stated. “Expect a more formidable Kwara Ladies. After reviewing last season and our Cup performance, we’ve addressed many issues and are confident in our improvements.”
Kwara Ladies have a history of nurturing talent, with players like Omoniyi Tolulope and Shakirat Moshood having emerged from their ranks. The current squad features young, promising players who the club hopes will elevate their performance.
“This Kwara Ladies is a project,” Muyiwa continued. “We’re committed to developing young players. Several of our former players are now part of the national U-20 team. This season, we’re focusing on achieving promotion and we believe we have the talent and determination to do so.”
The league’s expansion to 19 teams adds a new layer of competition, but the team is undeterred. “We respect every opponent, but we’re here to compete and achieve our goals,” Muyiwa affirmed.
Kwara Ladies will be competing alongside Moje Queens from Kwara State, adding a local rivalry to the mix. With their sights set on promotion, Kwara Ladies are poised to make a significant impact this season.
