Assistant coach Ubong Sunday of Ibom Angels FC is confident that their tactical prowess and style of play will secure them a promotion ticket at the 2024 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Championship.
Following a solid start to this year’s second tier campaign, Ibom Angels have maintained a perfect record, alongside Gallant Queens and Honey Badgers, after their first two games.
Ibom Angels began their campaign with a commanding 3-0 victory over Papa Soccer Angels and followed it up with a gritty 2-1 win against Delta Babes. Their last significant return to the top flight came at the end of the 2022 NWFL Championship season, a success they aim to replicate in Calabar.
“We were playing against a good side in a tough game,” Ubong Sunday told www.thenwfl.com. “However, thanks to our tactical ability and style of play, we were able to dominate them by the special grace of God.”
Ubong also expressed optimism about the team’s performance and potential for improvement. “The girls can do even better than they did yesterday. We are seeing gradual improvement, and we believe that in our next game, we’ll perform even better.”
Looking ahead, Ibom Angels face challenging fixtures against Unification FC and Chosen Generation. “These teams will provide stern tests, but we are focused on securing one of the two promotion tickets,” Ubong said. “The competition has been tough, but with our continued effort, we are aiming for nothing less than promotion.”
With the tactical expertise of Edwin Okon, the former coach of Nigeria’s senior women’s national team and a continental campaigner with Rivers Angels, Ibom Angels are poised for enhanced performances in their upcoming matches.
