Papa Soccer Angels Coach Reflects on Lessons Learned After Strong Comeback

Coach Michael Olamiji of Papa Soccer Angels acknowledged the pivotal role that the previous loss played in their comeback.

Following a tough 2-0 defeat to Ibom Angels on Saturday, Papa Soccer Angels bounced back impressively with a 5-1 victory over Chosen Generation in their second Group B1 match at the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Championship in Calabar.

A brace from Ugochi Ifebi, along with goals from Ajewole Oyindamola, Anthony Elizabeth, and Chigbo Margaret, propelled the Lagos-based side to a dominant win over Chosen Generation.

“Let’s give glory to God, and let’s also acknowledge the hard work of the players and the technical crew,” Olamiji told www.thenwfl.com. “We didn’t relent in our efforts to ensure we met the standard, which is why we achieved this victory.”

Olamiji recounted how the team’s defeat to Ibom Angels served as a learning experience.

“We learned our lessons from that loss. The lessons we took from it were crucial in securing today’s win,” he continued.

“We analyzed the loopholes and errors from the first match and made the necessary corrections, despite the limited time for training. When players can effectively implement the feedback they receive, it translates into positive results.”

Looking ahead, Papa Soccer Angels are focused on securing a spot in the promotion playoffs.

“Every coach aims to win, not to lose,” Olamiji remarked. “As we address our mistakes and aim for three points, we will continue to apply the same strategies and strive for victories in our upcoming matches.”

Papa Soccer Angels’ final group stage matches will be against Delta Babes and Unification FC. A top-place finish in their group will secure a place in the promotion playoffs, bringing them one step closer to reaching the NWFL Premiership.
