2024/25 NWFL Premiership MD 4 Reviews: Edo Queens Record Consecutive Draws as Remo Stars Clinch Top Spot

For the second consecutive matchday, defending champions Edo Queens were forced to a 1-1 draw in the 2024/25 Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) Premiership on Wednesday.

A week after drawing 1-1 with Remo Stars Ladies in Benin City, Edo Queens were held to the same scoreline by Dannaz Ladies at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, Lagos.

Moses Aduku’s side took the lead in the 18th minute through Goodness Osigwe. However, a resilient Dannaz Ladies leveled the score in the 70th minute thanks to Omotoke Ogunfuwa’s equalizer, ensuring that both teams shared the spoils.

In Ikenne, Remo Stars Ladies secured a 4-1 victory over Heartland Queens to leapfrog Edo Queens to the top of Group A.

Kafayat Bashiru, formerly of Osun Babes, opened the scoring for the Sky Blue Ladies in the 29th minute. Heartland Queens responded swiftly, with Monica Matthew equalizing in the 32nd minute.

Bolaji Olamide, who had been on a goal-scoring streak, put Remo Stars ahead once again in the 55th minute. Three minutes later, Deborah Kehinde extended the lead to 3-1, and Olamide sealed the win with her second goal of the game, making it 4-1.

In Yenagoa, Bayelsa Queens triumphed 3-0 over Adamawa Queens with goals from Vera Samuel, Cynthia Mega, and Rose Ekong.

In a thrilling encounter in Lagos, FC Robo Queens and Naija Ratels played out a 2-2 draw. Opeyemi Ajakaye handed the hosts the lead in the 3rd minute, but Jenat Ikpa leveled for Naija Ratels in the 25th minute. Tunmininu Adeshina then put the visitors ahead in the 30th minute, but Rodiat Yusuf struck eight minutes later to secure a draw for FC Robo Queens.

This draw marked Naija Ratels’ third stalemate in four matches this season.

After a three-match winless run, Ibom Angels finally secured their first win of the season, edging newcomers Benue Queens 2-1 in Uyo. Wami Georgeline and Kelechi Chukwunlem found the back of the net for the Orange Ladies, while Anastasia Emefo’s goal was not enough to prevent Benue Queens from suffering their fourth consecutive loss.

In Lafia, Nasarawa Amazons secured their third win of the season, defeating Ekiti Queens 2-0. Kesiena Ojiyovwi and Janet Akekeromowei were the goal scorers for the Solid Babes.

Mary Lucky made headlines by becoming the second player to score a hat-trick in the league this season, after Adamawa Queens’ Omon Afensimi. Lucky’s three goals helped Abia Angels to a 3-0 victory over Confluence Queens, sending the visitors to their fourth straight defeat.

The only away victory of Matchday Four came in Asaba, where Rivers Angels triumphed 2-1 over Delta Queens. Favour Dagogo gave Delta Queens the lead in the 18th minute, but goals from Patience Otubo and Mary Moses in the second half propelled Rivers Angels to their third win of the season.

As the Super Six Playoffs spots remain up for grabs, teams are continuing their fight for survival and a chance at the title. Matchday Five will take place next Wednesday, and the competition continues to intensify.
