North Central Derby to Open 2024/25 NWFL Premiership Super 6 Playoffs

The 2024/25 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership Super Six Playoffs will kick off on Saturday, May 10, with a North Central derby between Nasarawa Amazons and Naija Ratels at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne.

The opening fixture was confirmed during the official draw ceremony held inside the auditorium of the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne on Friday. The match is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m., marking the start of the decisive phase of the league season.

In their most recent league meeting during the 2023/24 campaign, Nasarawa Amazons secured a dominant 5–0 win over Naija Ratels.

Later in the day, the South-South derby will see Bayelsa Queens take on Rivers Angels. Both teams qualified from Group B, with the Prosperity Girls edging out the Jewels of Rivers 1–0 in their last encounter at the Samson Siasia Stadium.

Defending champions Edo Queens will wrap up Matchday 1 with a clash against host team Remo Stars Ladies. Edo Queens previously defeated Remo Stars 1–0 in their league meeting in Ikenne.

The tournament schedule includes designated rest days on Sunday, May 11; Wednesday, May 14; and Friday, May 16. Matchdays two, three, and four are set for May 12, 13, and 15 respectively, while the final round of matches will be played on Saturday, May 17.

The team with the highest points at the end of the Super Six will be crowned league champions and will earn the ticket to represent Nigeria at the WAFU-B Women’s Champions League qualifiers in Côte d’Ivoire.

Past winners of the NWFL Premiership include Rivers Angels (2021), Bayelsa Queens (2022), Delta Queens (2023), and current holders Edo Queens (2024).
