Nasarawa Amazons 1-1 Bayelsa Queens: Former champions share spoils in NWFL Premiership title chase

Bayelsa Queens extended their unbeaten run in the 2024/25 NWFL Premiership season following a 1-1 draw against Nasarawa Amazons on Matchday Two of the Super Six Playoffs at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne, on Monday.

In a highly contested encounter between former league champions, second-half goals from Janet Akekeromowei and Dooshima Tarnum ensured both teams settled for a share of the spoils in their bid for the league crown.

The deadlock was broken in the 56th minute after Bayelsa Queens defender Jennifer Oliver was sent off for handling a goal-bound effort inside the box.

Akekeromowei stepped up and calmly slotted home the resulting penalty to put Nasarawa Amazons ahead.

Despite being reduced to 10 players, Bayelsa Queens rallied and found the equaliser just six minutes later.

Substitute Dooshima Tarnum made an instant impact, scoring against her former club to level the tie.

With the result, Nasarawa Amazons moved to second place on the Super Six standings with four points from two matches, while Bayelsa Queens also have four points but sit third due to goal difference.

Up next, Nasarawa Amazons will face Rivers Angels on Tuesday, while Bayelsa Queens take on host team Remo Stars Ladies.
