COMMUNIQUÉ ISSUED AT THE END OF THE 2025 NWFL ANNUAL GENERAL ASSEMBLY

COMMUNIQUÉ ISSUED AT THE END OF THE 2025 ANNUAL GENERAL ASSEMBLY (AGA) OF THE NIGERIA WOMEN FOOTBALL LEAGUE (NWFL) HELD ON WEDNESDAY, 29TH OCTOBER, 2025, AT GOLDEN TULIP HOTEL, PORT HARCOURT.

The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) rose from its Annual General Assembly held on Wednesday, 29th October, 2025, and resolved as follows:

1. The Congress expressed its profound appreciation to the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the entire board for their exemplary leadership, steadfast support, and commitment to creating an enabling environment that has driven the continued growth and success of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL). Special appreciation was also extended to our gracious host, His Excellency, Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State, and the Honourable Commissioner for Sports, Barr. Chris Green, for their immense support in facilitating the successful hosting of the AGA and for their exceptional hospitality throughout the event.

2. The Assembly endorsed the minutes of the 2024/2025 Annual General Meeting and adopted the financial report for the 2024/2025 season, alongside the budget for the 2025/2026 season.

3.  The Congress further approved the 2024/2025 Premiership and Championship tables as presented by the NWFL Secretariat.

4. The Assembly endorsed the introduction of an online registration system, beginning with the Premiership, and applauded the NWFL Secretariat’s innovative strategies and policies geared towards improving its structures and marketability.

5. The Congress also applauded the restoration of the NWFL Nationwide, while endorsing the promotion of four Championship clubs to the Premiership and four Nationwide teams into the Championship for the upcoming 2025/2026 season.
6. The promotions of Ahudiyannem Queens, Sunshine Queens, Castmog Ladies, and Imo Striker Queens to the NWFL Premiership from the Championship were ratified, while Dreamstar Ladies, Rangers Women, Solo Wonders, and Rosaria Victrix were promoted to the Championship. 
7. Congress also reviewed numerous standing motions with aim of improving the structure and professional standards in the top division of the NWFL and approved the following changes to the Premiership formats and regulations:

{A}. Reduce the number of clubs in the Premiership from 20 clubs to 16 clubs, to commence from the 2026/2027 Season. Consequently, six teams will be relegated from the elite division at the end of the 2025/2026 campaign.

{B}. While two teams from the Championship will gain promotion to the Premiership. Likewise, two teams from the Championship will be relegated to the Nationwide League.

8. The Congress agreed that the two-group league format (Groups A and B)  would be retained for the 2025/2026 NWFL Premiership season, with 20 clubs divided into 10 each for the draw ceremony conducted through seeding. The groups are as follows:

Group A features defending champions Bayelsa Queens (seeded), who will compete alongside Edo Queens, Adamawa Queens, Pacesetter Queens, Heartland Queens, Ekiti Queens, Naija Ratels FC, Ibom Angels, Castmog Ladies, and Rivers Angels.

Group B is headlined by last season’s runners-up, Nasarawa Amazons (seeded), who will face strong competition from Remo Stars Ladies, Confluence Queens, Delta Queens, Sunshine Queens, Ahudiyannem Queens, Dannaz Ladies, Osun Babes, Abia Angels, and FC Robo Queens.

9. The Congress approved that the 2025/2026 NWFL Premiership season will officially kick off on November 26, 2025. The Premiership will proceed until December 17, when it will observe a Christmas break, before resuming on January 7, 2026. The regular season is scheduled to conclude on April 22, 2026. The opening Star Match of the Week between defending champions Bayelsa Queens and bronze winners Edo Queens will take place at the Samson Siasia Stadium on the same day.

10. The financial report for the 2024/2025 season, as presented by the NWFL external auditor, and the proposed budget for the 2025/2026 season, as presented by the Secretariat, were adopted.
