The NWFL Premiership picks up from where it left off as the Nigeria Women Football League top flight returns after four weeks break due to instructions that players and officials of all clubs must undergo the compulsory COVID-19 test.
Meanwhile, players and coaching staff of all clubs are expected to follow the COVID-19 laid down rules, by using hand sanitizers before and after the match to ensure hygiene and standards are met. There will be no spitting, no handshakes and hugging during goal celebration.
28 matches were played in the first four weeks of the season, with 72 goals scored from over 40 goalscorers. More goals are expected to be scored in week 5.
The return from a break can always throw out some strange results. Some players return with a new sense of energy, while others struggle. However, here’s the www.thenwfl.com restart preview and all the details you need to know going into the games on Wednesday.
Delta Queens 🆚 Bayelsa Queens.
Bayelsa Queens have started the league well and look Invincible in their first four games. The team has great camaraderie, star-studded and definitely Moses Aduku and his girls will be looking forward to getting a great result against Delta Queens in Agbor.
In the other hand, Delta Queens have gotten great results at home and would be looking at picking maximum points. Dominance Odubanjo and former league topscorer Amarachi Ojini and others will have to be at their best to make their fans happy.
Edo Queens 🆚 Nasarawa Amazons (Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin).
Nasarawa Amazons have struggled early in the season, but finally got a win against Delta Queens in matchday 4. Christopher Danjuma and Rollandson Odeh meets again for the first time in almost four years and the rivalry between both managers will be rekindled on Wednesday evening at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.
Both Managers shared their optimism recently in an interview session with the league’s website and would leave no stone unturned as they both seek for victory.
Edo Queens went on the break on a high, recording a superb performance against Sunshine Queens in Akure. Tessy Biahwo, Jumoke Alani, Taibat Odueke and others will be looking at hurting the ‘Solid Babes’ , while Amarachi Okoronwko, Dooshima Tarnum and others will be hoping to get a good result in Benin.
Ibom Angels 🆚 Rivers Angels (Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo)
Rivers Angels will fancy themselves getting a positive result in Uyo against Ibom Angels. The ‘Orange Ladies’ poor preparation before the start of the season has seen them struggling early on.
Coach Moruf Adeyemo knows he is playing against a good side and would have told his players to do more on the pitch, if they want to pick the maximum point. Rivers Angels haven’t lost a game this season and haven’t also recorded and away victory. Akwa-Ibom born Edwin Okon surely wants that against his native team.
Osun Babes 🆚 Dreamstar Ladies (Osogbo City Stadium, Osogbo).
Dreamstar Ladies will be hoping to continue heir fine form when they pay a visit to the Osogbo City Stadium to face the ‘Omoluabi Queens’. The ‘Galaticas’ won their first game of the season against Ibom Angels at the Agege Township Stadium, a win they cherish alot. The management has noted that Coach Anya Ugochi’s resignation won’t affect the girls in Osogbo. On the other hand, Osun Babes Manager, Adunola Olayinka and her players are optimistic of a victory. The Omoluabi Queens have picked 6 points from four games and want to make it 9 on Wednesday. The South-west derby promises to be exciting.
Confluence Queens 🆚 FC Robo Queens (Confluence Stadium, Lokoja)
Both teams have plenty of talents, almost to a fault and that makes this fixture one to watch out for.
Away from the recent news coming from the ‘New Direction’ Ladies camp, Coach Whyte Ogbonda recently told www.thenwfl.com that his girls are fully prepared for the game and will go all out to pick another win at home.
Osahon Emmanuel will be relying on the league’s current topscorer Monday Gift to deliver in Lokoja, while Joy Omewa and others will have alot to handle in this game. It promises to be an interesting encounter.
Abia Angels 🆚 Sunshine Queens (Umuahia Township Stadium, Umuahia). .
One thing is an almost certainty in this match according to records and that is both teams are likely to score.
Abia Angels are very good at home and Sunshine Queens needs to step up their game to get a desired result.
Wemimo Matthew knows her onus and understands that the team needs to get a favourable result in Umuahia, after their frustrating performance against Edo Queens last time out.
Pelican Stars 🆚 Royal Queens (U. J Usuene Stadium, Calabar).
Pelican Stars haven’t been impressive this season and they are playing against a side who can spring out surprises. Coach Olaleke Sanusi will be hopeful of getting his first win of the season, when the ‘Canadian Geese’ come visiting. It’s clearly going to be a match to watch.
