NWFL 2022 Wk 2 Review: Nasarawa Amazons Win Big, Edo Queens, Bayelsa Queens Held, Osun Babes, FC Robo Queens Lose.

“The Nigeria Women Football League top tier witnessed two away victories, one home win and three draws on Wednesday.”

The second round of fixtures in the NWFL Premiership featured some intriguing matches across various centres in the country.

The Nigeria Women Football League top tier witnessed two away victories, one home win and three draws on Wednesday.

In the first game of the day, Oghenebrume Ikhekua scored the only goal, as Rivers Angels battled through to record a hard-fought victory against the ‘Lagos Landladies’. Her strike in the 15th minute of the game was all they needed to keep up with the challenges ahead.

In Nembe, Bayelsa Queens came back very late to play a 1-1 draw with neighbors, Delta Queens. The Restoration Ladies’ who were the favorite to win the game, trailed their opponent for close to an hour after Chisom Henry had scored through a sumptuous free-kick in the 35th minutes, before Mercy Itimi helped the home team to pick a draw.

Abia Angels and Royal Queens played out a goalless draw in Umuahia, the home team lost a couple of chances in the first half and that made them find it difficult to get maximum points in the game. The ‘Canadian Geese’ grew stronger in the second half, but failed to hammer on their chances too.

Mercy Omokwo continues with her blistering form as she scored the only goal in the game between Confluence Queens and Osun Babes at the Lanreleke Stadium, Ile-Ogbo on Wednesday evening. Omokwo has now score four goals in the games and is presently the top-scorer in the league.

Edo Queens and Naija Ratels played out a 2-2 draw in Benin. Ezekiel Motunrayo’s own goal gave the ‘Obaseki Ladies’ the lead in the 30th minute, before Yemisi Samuel doubled the lead early on, in the second half, with her trademark run. The ‘One Day at a Time’ Ladies came back stronger later in the game and put one back in the 82nd minute, through Bankole Sofiat and in the 89th minute, Olamide Adugbe scored from about 27 yard to give the newcomers a point in Benin.

Nasarawa Amazons romped to a 3-0 away win in Calabar, as Pelican Stars suffered their second heavy defeat of the new season. Dooshima Tarnum, Aweda Titilayo and Ayatsea Hembefan were on the scoresheet.
