It’s no longer news that the 2022 NWFL Premiership season will kickstart on the 8th of December across all centres in Nigeria.
Last season was unusually calm with Abayomi Olorunda of Royal Queens and Rollandson Odeh losing their jobs. Olorunda resigned following interference from the club’s hierarchy, while Odeh was asked to step down as Head Coach.
Olorunda had formed a very young and strong team with Royal Queens, leading them to the NWFL Championship title in 2019.
Also, Whyte Ogbonda Of Confluence Queens, Anya Ugochi of Dreamstar Ladies and Moruf Adeyemo of Ibom Angels at a point left their position for some reasons. While Moruf Adeyemo and Whyte Ogbonda returned back, Anya Oguchi didn’t look back.
This time, five teams namely Royal Queens, Sunshine Queens, Confluence Queens, Edo Queens, Delta Queens will start the season with a new manager.
Here are the 14 NWFL Premiership Managers for the upcoming season.
- Royal Queens – ( Atare Azigbo)
Atare Azigbo took over the helms of affair after the departure of Paul Mene to Confluence Queens. The former footballer was the Sporting Director of the team before taking over as Manager. He had a good outing at the Flying Officers Cup and will be hoping to keep the Premiership status of the 2019 NWFL Championship winners.
- Sunshine Queens- (Tayo Onilude)
Tayo Onilude was assistant to Wemimo Mathew, before the National team Coach moved to money spinning side, Edo Queens.
Tayo Onilude will now take the onus on herself, leading the ‘Betty Babes’ to a very respectable position in the league, aiming for the Super 6.
- Bayelsa Queens – (Moses Aduku)
Moses Aduku have an array of stars in his squad. They seem to be the most gifted side and we’re doing so well in the league, before the Super 6. Moses Aduku’s led the team to Premiership glory in 2018 and also Champions Shield in 2019.
- Confluence Queens- (Liadi Bashiru)
The former Osun Babes Manager was announced as new Confluence Queens Manager in October 2021 and will lead the team alongside Paul Mene and Esther Micheal for the 2022 NWFL Premiership season. He is expected to bring his wealth of experience to play at the Confluence Stadium.
- Pelican Stars- (Olaleke Sanusi)
Olaleke Sanusi popularly called ‘Arigo’ helped his side to retain Premiership status, in the relegation play off and has promised to do better in the 2022 NWFL Premiership season. The experienced Manager has all it takes to bring something good to the Calabar fans.
- Naija Ratels- (Bankole Olowookeere)
Bankole Olowookeere is another Manager hoping to make a good remark in his first season at the top with Naija Ratels. The former Dreamstar Ladies Coach will start his campaign at their new home ground, the Area 10 Sports Complex, Abuja, against Osun Babes.
- Osun Babes – (Olayinka Adunola )
Olayinka Adunola will continue the good job she started last season with Osun Babes. Whyte Ogbonda who initially took over and got the team a third place position at the Flying Officers Cup, left the ‘Omoluabi Queens’ in November through a mutual consent.
- Adamawa Queens:- (Joshua Stephen Zira)
Even though there are speculations that Jacob Vandi will take over the helms of affair of the ‘Fintiri’ Ladies for the new season, but Joshua Stephen Zira has continued tutoring his side ahead of their opener against Edo Queens on the 8th of December.
- Edo Queens -( Wemimo Mathew )
Alot is expected from the new Edo Queens Manager, Wemimo Mathew, the ambitious Manager knows what is at stake and is ready to go, starting from the Adamawa Queens game. The former Sunshine Queens Manager led the ‘Betty Babes’ to third place at the 2019 NWFL Super 4 Championship and will be hoping to do something great with the ‘Obaseki Ladies’.
- FC Robo Queens – (Osahon Emmanuel Orobosa)
Osahon Emmanuel Orobosa is an achiever and would go all out this season to bring in more success. Their recent glory at the Flying Officers Cup is a testament that they can create more history at the 2022 NWFL Premiership season.
- Nasarawa Amazons – (Christopher Danjuma )
The last time Nasarawa Amazons won the league was in 2017. They came close in 2018, but lost to Bayelsa Queens in the final of the Super 4. Christopher Danjuma who doubles as the Head Coach of the Falconets has enriched his squad and won’t want a repeat of their poor start last season.
- Abia Angels – ( Ann Chiejine)
Coach Ann Chiejine will continue with Abia Angels for the new season. The Super Falcons assistant Coach has helped the ‘Angels From The East’ retain their Premiership Status, since they came to the topflight in 2017.
- Delta Queens – (Daniel Evunema )
The experienced Manager is back to the squad and would definitely bring his wealth of experience to play. Dan Evunema had won titles with Delta Queens in the past and took over from former C.O.D Ladies Coach, Kazeem Alabi in November.
- Rivers Angels – ( Edwin Okon)
Rivers Angels are defending Champions of the NWFL Premiership, but failed to do well at the CAF Women Champions League in Egypt. Edwin Okon knows there would be alot of pressure on him, starting with their first match in Asaba against Delta Queens. The ‘Akwa Ibom’ born coach is the most successful coach in the league with four league titles to his name.
